How to disassemble a hydraulic cylinder?
The operation of heavy machinery requires a considerable amount of power, which cannot be always provided by an internal combustion engine. That is why one of the main elements of its construction is a hydraulic cylinder. In this article you will learn about its disassembly.
Useful information
You will need related tools to carry out this operation. First of all, it is necessary to unscrew all the nuts located on a hydraulic cylinder rod. This should be done carefully, as they are often tightly clamped, however, in this case, it is very important to keep the threaded joint intact. A chisel or a tube wrench is usually used for these purposes. If the thread is nevertheless damaged, it is possible to fix it with a hacksaw.
The next stage of the disassembly is to remove a valve from the rod using ordinary pliers, but at the same time the joint must not be damaged. After that, the top cap is separated from the barrel. To facilitate this operation, a few fasteners must be unscrewed first. Be aware that the stud may split as a result of such manipulations. If you do not want this to happen, proceed with the utmost caution. For the stuck caps, a special solution (deoxidizer) must be used for 3 or 4 hours.
Now the oil pipe must be removed. If you do not manage to do it, use a special knockout hammer. The disassembly procedure is completed with the dismantling of locking rings. An ordinary screwdriver can be used for it. When you finish disassembling, do not forget to remove the rubber ring located on the oil pipe.
It should be noted that the disassembly of hydraulic cylinders is a rather complicated process that should be entrusted to specialists. A professional approach helps reduce the risk of breakage of any parts during the dismantling process.
