Maintaining oil cleanliness
Oil and filters must be replaced at the intervals specified in the equipment / machine manual. Most hydraulic failures are due to pollution. Therefore, it is especially important to make sure that the oil is cleaned before it enters the cylinder. Install high performance filters with differential pressure sensors in the hydraulic system. The indicator will indicate clogging. This will enable timely replacement before the bypass mode is activated, the state when the oil passes through the corresponding valve, bypassing the filter element.
Regular inspection
It should consist in checking the piston rod for:
- Pitting corrosion. It may indicate too much moisture either in the working fluid itself or in the environment.
- Uneven wear. It signals the possibility of an early failure of the hydraulic cylinder. Uneven rod wear is most often caused by displacement. Under one-sided loads, seals and spherical bearings may also fail. It is often possible to polish or re-chromium a damaged stem. - Scratches and chipping. They usually appear due to oil contamination.
Timely replacement of seals
If it is important to avoid downtime, you must always have a complete set of spare parts for cylinders. They must be replaced regularly. Inspect the inside of the cylinder.
Maintenance of hydraulic cylinder mounts
Brackets, brackets, eyes, ball joints or other connections are almost as important as the hydraulic cylinder itself. When they wear, there is a skew or backlash. This can even lead to catastrophic damage. Lubricate articulated joints regularly. Prevention will avoid significant costs.
