Non-Standard Cylinders for Industrial Use

By definition, a non-standard cylinder can be classified as anything that is bigger than a normal use cylinder, primarily those used in the agricultural industry. By non-standard cylinders we mean those that are at least 8 meters long and even longer or operate under high pressure conditions, both single stroke and telescopic cylinders. And Eurobalt is one of the biggest manufacturers of non-standard hydraulic cylinders for industrial use.

The longest cylinder that we have produced to date is a 32-meter-long single stroke cylinder for the mining industry. However, the use of these types of cylinder is not limited to the mining industry. Here are some of other places where a telescopic or single stroke cylinder operating at high pressure can come in handy.

There are also other industries where cylinders of this size and magnitude come in handy, but these are the few where the of non-standard hydraulic cylinders has been prevalent for a long time now.

Things to Consider When Ordering Your Non-Standard Hydraulic Cylinder

While a hydraulic cylinder in operation looks like a simple device, there are many things to take into consideration when it comes to manufacturing non-standard cylinders. As industrial cylinders will be required to lift more, press harder and push farther, there needs to be a clear understanding of how a cylinder works and how you can get maximum output from your cylinders. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Diameter of the rod

There will always be design constraints for fitting in a cylinder on your equipment, and cylinder rod diameters are sometimes determined by the space left over to connect the cylinder to the base. To be on the safe side, the optimal diameter for the amount to be lifted should be considered even before designing the equipment.
The rod diameter proportional to the cylinder body will not only help extend the longevity of the cylinder, but also make the equipment safer. The pull or push force exerted by the cylinder should determine the rod diameter. When the optimal diameter for the required task is used for the cylinder, there will be no sagging or bending.

  • Length of the stroke

Similar to the diameter of the rod, the stroke length plays a vital role in the health of the cylinder. When it comes to non-standard hydraulic cylinders, the length of the cylinder stroke in most cases is going to be long. While the body of the cylinder is also long, one thing to keep an eye on when ordering a non-standard cylinder is not to make it extend too far from its body.
When the stroke is almost equal to the size of the body, there can be an issue of sagging or slight bending. The stroke length, if not measured properly, can cause undue wear on a perfectly usable cylinder. The wear parts will also be troubled and there will be need for frequent servicing and part replacement.

  • Operating speed

The operating speed of the cylinder determines the sealing used to prevent leakage. The faster the stroke is, the less friction resistance sealing should be used. This prevents undue pressure on the seals, which can in turn prevent it from breaking. Delivering a cylinder is an easy task, maintaining it for optimal use over a long period of time requires a lot of fore planning and future care.

When ordering a non-standard hydraulic cylinder, it’s important to consider additional factors like pressure, cylinder position, and working temperature. The position of the cylinder determines its outer build and bearings, while the temperature helps determine which seals and metals should be used in manufacturing. The operating pressure is a crucial choice that affects the cylinder’s longevity, and the material used should be selected accordingly.

Manufacturing of Non-Standard Cylinders at Eurobalt

We have been in the hydraulic cylinder manufacturing industry for quite some time now. While producing standard cylinders is a significant aspect of our business, our expertise lies in crafting intricate and non-traditional hydraulic cylinders. Our prices are competitive, and our quality supersedes the ISO quality standard.

Whether it’s a single-stroke or telescopic cylinder, it doesn’t matter. Our years of experience in hydraulic cylinder manufacturing have allowed us to focus on perfecting the process of creating the best non-standard cylinders available on the market today.

Testing of Non-Standard Hydraulic Cylinders at Eurobalt

We have a test bench capable of testing a hydraulic cylinder that stretches 15 meters in length, unlike standard hydraulic cylinders that we can easily test. The dilemma stems from the cylinder’s elongation, which causes issues when using a test bench. Consequently, we utilize small cranes and a rope to lift the cylinder from its center to examine it. Raising it above ground level allows us to inspect the piston’s movement in both directions as the oil propels the rod forward and backward.

QUOTATION REQUEST

This enables us to verify that the seals are securely in place and there are no leaks. Our materials conform to industry standards, and clients can choose from a variety of seals to be utilized in their cylinders. Additionally, we offer a 1-year warranty for all our cylinders with the option of extending it depending on the circumstances. If the cylinders meet the production specifications, we will replace them if needed.
