Your One Stop Destination Eurobalt Engineering

Metal Injection Molding has been around for a few decades now. Taking its inspiration from Plastic Injection Molding and Powder Metallurgy, MIM rose in the world of metal manufacturing for its tendency to produce high density but small in size complex parts.

Due to the precision and speed displayed by Metal Injection Molding, it became the go to for smaller and geometrically complex parts. MIM reduced the cost associated with the use of die casting for smaller parts, and with the introduction of multiple cavities, it also streamlined the production process, making it faster.

At Eurobalt Engineering we are ahead of the competition when it comes to Metal Injection Molding because of our capability to manufacture mold in house. The tooling needed to give the shape of the metal part is all done under one roof with the help of multiple CNC machines and specialized tools for the purposes of manufacturing tooling.

Tooling Manufacture for Metal Injection Molding at Eurobalt Engineering

Though the size of parts made from Metal Injection Molding cannot be larger than half a kilo, the size of cavity inside the tooling is also small. But the construction itself of a large size as compression and pressure needs to be maintained inside the cavity.

In a single mold, we offer our clients the opportunity to insert multiple cavities. This helps in the production process as a single motion of opening and closing can result in multiple parts.

The mold has two equal halves, the moving side has no openings on the outside and on the inside, there is one half of the cavity. The immovable side is connected to the high-pressure feeding tube, through which mixed feed stock is passed into the opening made on the back.

The feed stock makes it way to the cavity, after the two ends are closed shut, and fills the cavity, taking the required shape. There is still the feed portion of the mold which is attached to the main part, but it can be removed easily.

Metal Injection Molding is limited in its capability when it comes to producing larger parts still the tooling is a heavy piece of machinery. At Eurobalt Engineering all that is simplified under one roof, with the ability to fix issues, produce perfect parts, and elevate your production woes.

We also afford our partners the ability to chose from a varied list of material so they can be confident in the longevity and sturdiness of the tooling. Also, sturdy tooling means consistent result over an extended period of use, and we facilitate all types of production questions at Eurobalt Engineering.

How Tooling is Manufactured at Eurobalt Engineering?

Tooling is vital to the success of the Metal Injection Manufacturing process. Shaping of parts required depends on the manufacturing of a proper tooling. Also, with sensible design the need for extra manufacture work is not required which helps in the production time.

At Eurobalt Engineering we manufacture the tooling ourselves to make sure we are the one stop working partners for our clients. And there are a couple of steps we need to follow during the manufacturing of tooling for Metal Injection Molding.

  • Selection of Material: The first and most vital part of manufacturing tooling for Metal Injection Molding is the selection of material. We offer various steel types for the purposes of manufacturing the tooling.

Steel grades and types must be considered depending on the mechanical property requirement of the final product. The material used in tooling must be a variant from the ones used to manufacture the inner working of the tooling, such as the clamps, ejector pins etc.

  • Machining: Like forming a metal part through the use of machining the process of manufacturing tooling is almost similar. With the utilization of drilling, lathe, and CNC, complexity demanded by Metal Injection Molding is achieved.

CNC machines are used to cut controlled and measured grooves in the tooling. Milling and lathe are also used when required but most of the work nowadays is done with the help of computers. While there are new technologies used in the manufacturing of tooling, the tried and tested method of machining is hard to get rid of.

At Eurobalt Engineering we not only provide our clients with the opportunity to select from a wide array of materials, but we also provide a variety of machining possibilities to fit their production needs. Equipped with state-of-the-art CNC devices we can manufacture high tolerance and precise tooling for Metal Injection Molding.
